Oliver Kahn has been an impassioned soccer player ever since he was a boy. His parents insisted that he get a good school education parallel to his sports, so he studied economics after gaining his German high-school diploma (Abitur). Karlsruhe offered him his first professional contract at the early age of 18. He played his first game in the Bundesliga in November 1987. With spectacular saves and top performances he was soon one of the top players at KSC. After the transfer to FC Bayern Munich in 1994 Oliver Kahn became one of the key players and captain. Oliver Kahn grew up to one of the most successful professional players of all time and to the most successful German keeper par excellence: 8 x German champion, 6 x winner of DFB-Pokal, 2001 Champions League winner, the greatest title in European association football. During his career he challenged 864 regular games, hereunder 554 games in the German Bundesliga, 424 with FC Bayern Munich, 86 games as goalkeeper of the German national team and 141 games in the UEFA-Cup and in the Champions League. He became World Goalkeeper of the year three times and best player and best goalkeeper at the World Championship in Japan/South Korea. For his outstanding athletic and personal achievements Oliver Kahn received further awards, among other things for his team spirit and his exemplary behaviour during the World Championship in Germany in 2006. In summer 2008, his 22nd year as a professional goalkeeper, he abandoned his unprecedented career.
